Summary: Assists in providing pharmacy services to patients. Acts as a role model to other technician staff and assists the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) in all staff-related issues.
Lead Technician Responsibilities:

Lead Technician Responsibilities:
- By direction of the PIC, complete the Technician Schedule and ensure coverage of shifts considering PTO and sick coverage.
- Make a daily rotation schedule.
- Train all new staff and disseminate all required training to technician staff.
- Communicate to pharmacist/PIC/Director pertinent information for various pharmacy decisions as requested.
- Assist the PIC with competencies, evaluations, and scorecards for the technician team.
- Build upon the skills and responsibilities of the technician team, focusing on being a role model, guide, and mentor while supporting the pharmacists.
- Supply ordering and supply formulary maintenance for the pharmacy.
- Assistance with the annual inventory.
- Knowledgeable of all third-party payer requirements and assists staff in the proper way to bill for prescriptions in the Pharmacy Software System.
- Maintain knowledge of the 340b program and ensure that 340b Policy/Procedures are being followed by all technician staff and act as a liaison between staff and 340b Coordinator/Pharmacy Director.
- Work with lead technicians from other sites to ensure consistency and standardization of procedures between all sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in dispensing prescriptions by compounding, mixing suspensions, counting tablets, or pouring liquids under pharmacists’ supervision.
- Being familiar with the correct prescription terminology used.
- Check all prescriptions for completeness of information. Verify patient information and proper provider authorization.
- Enter patient data and prescription information into the computer system.
- Prepare prescription labels.
- Assist with the filing of invoices.
- Compute prices of prescriptions.
- Assist with inventory control of medications/supplies. Check regularly for outdated medications.
- Provide non-drug information to patients and answers simple inquiries.
- Operate cash register, perform transaction, and give patients proper receipts.
- Clean pharmacy equipment, utensils, and work area.
- Determine 340b eligibility of prescriptions.
- Assist the pharmacist in reviewing and compliance with quality measures.
- Assist financial counselor in ordering medication for indigent drug program.
- Attend/participate in requested/required meetings.
- Participate in staff development and educational activities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform related work as required.

SKILLS:
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical and related medical technology.
- Knowledge of metric and apothecary systems of weights and measurements.
- Knowledge of medical safety standards to assist in manufacturing and working with pharmaceutical substances.
- Knowledge of prescription drugs and the dispensing function to check for correctness.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to read and interpret prescription information.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations and use a calculator.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Knowledge of the 340b program is preferred.
- Graduation from high school or GED
- One year’s pharmacy experience is preferred.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
