Pharmacist - Retail Staff

Grace Health Medical Campus - Corbin, KY - Full Time

Summary: 

Plans, organizes, and directs pharmacy operations in the clinic.  Also works directly with patients and providers to give information and guide patients about the effects of prescription drugs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pharmacy
    • Reviews prescriptions issued by physician or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and proper filling.  Also evaluates patient profile for any incompatibilities.
    • Oversees pharmacy workers engaged in prescription filling process.
    • Counsels patients on medication indications, proper use, side effects, interactions, and storage in compliance with federal law.
    • Actively participates in patient care by offering therapeutic options or alternatives to physician.  Also serves as a medication information resource to providers.
    • Works with social worker/outreach to find alternative payment routes for patients unable to afford necessary medication and treatment.
    • Analyzes records to indicate prescribing trends and excessive usage of medications.
    • Monitors drug use according to medication formulary and periodically reviews formulary for necessary changes.
    • Provides drug therapeutic monitoring to patients on certain medications in collaboration with the physicians.
    • Reconciles third party payment records and investigates any discrepancies.
    • Participates in meetings as necessary.  Ex: QI meetings, provider meetings, etc.
    • Possess strong leadership skills.
    • Demonstrate actions aligned with the mission of Grace Health and to hold staff accountable for same.
    • Works to ensure adequate and appropriate inventory levels to meet patient demand. 
    • Assists Pharmacist-In-Charge in leading and directing staff, including training, disciplinary actions, and scheduling.
    • Actively cultivates a working relationship with all providers and staff of Grace Health.
    • Preforms other assignments as necessary.
    • Ensures high level of customer service by all staff and addresses concerns with staff, PIC and Pharmacy Director in a timely manner.
  • Other
    • Generates pharmacy reports as needed.
    • Performs compliance audits as directed by Pharmacy Director.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Follows policies and procedures of the office, including administrative, clinical, quality assurance, and personnel.
  • Maintain good attendance (daily, meetings, and other assignment tasks)

  • Routinely keep supervisor informed about attendance and job assignments.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS:

  • A pharmacist must have good communication skills.  Good with numbers and have analytical skills.
  • Should have extensive, up to date knowledge regarding medication actions, interactions, indications and usage, side effects, dosage, etc.
  • Should be skilled in the use of electronic medical records.
  • Should be skilled in policy development.
  • Should be familiar with and continue training about the 340b program.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy and successful passing of the Board of Pharmacy exam.  Possession of a State Pharmacy license is required.
